pastel masculine It’s official: the biker look has made a comeback this season. Take a look at the Burberry Prorsum collection and it’s all there: studded leather clutch bags, big rich leather jackets and elbow-length black patent gloves. But while the look may have been reprised on the luxe catwalks of Milan, let’s remember the last time biker was a hit. Tom Ford was doing the look for Gucci in the form of skin-tight leather trousers with matching, biker collar jackets. It didn’t quite trickle down to the high street in the same rich style though. The result was girls and women (yes, both guilty) running around town in cheap PVC knock-offs, taking inspiration from Victoria Beckham’s solo career and her Dolce & Gabanna-style biker get-ups. It was a bad move for the female shopper; the cheap dye ran, the leather kick-flares split on the dance floor and the look was so ferocious, their boyfriends were too scared to tell them how naff they really looked. Truth is, because this trend involves an awful lot of leather, it should never be done on the cheap. Even if you can afford to splash out on this season’sHermes leather jacket, you should steer clear unless you’re a svelte type with more than a passing resemblance to Miss Moss 10 years back.
